Sacred Harp Example

In the coming weeks we will be working on learning a few pieces of music common to early America. We will be starting with an introduction to sacred music in early America.

Here's an example of a hymn we will be learning. This piece is from the Sacred Harp collection of Shape-Note Songs. The musical notation, for those that read music is posted below.

    Where can we find that?

    1. They are singing solfege note names at first, so that they can learn the music. Their arms are moving to keep rhythm.
